Description

The Starlink Mini dish accepts 12-48V input but can be difficult to use at 12V due to voltage drop along small gauge wire. Thus we came up with our own 14 AWG power cable with over-sized weatherproof barrel connector so that you can plug directly into the Starlink dish without worrying about moisture getting into the port. Compatible with the original mini kickstand.

Push the barrel plug firmly into the port on the Starlink Mini dish and connect to min 12V - max 48V power source. Check that the blue light on the dish is illuminated indicating the dish is on and enjoy your mobile internet connection!

Choose from cigarette lighter plug, bare wire, or ring terminal options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a step-up converter for the Mini 12V DC Power Cable to work with the Starlink Mini?

No. A step-up converter is not required for most 12V setups. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable minimizes voltage drop with thick 14 AWG ultra marine-grade wiring, making it far more reliable than the smaller gauge cables found in generic adapters. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable is built for mobile and off-road environments. The wiring handles vehicle use and survives being pinched by doors during routing. For most setups, the Mini 12V DC Power Cable is plug-and-play with a compatible 12V power source.

What is the Mini 12V DC Power Cable used for?

The Mini 12V DC Power Cable powers the Starlink Mini directly from a 12V to 48V DC power source, with no standard wall adapter needed. That means straight from your battery, as long as it is above 12V. Common uses include vehicles, RVs, vans, boats, battery systems, and off-grid setups.

Is the Mini 12V DC Power Cable compatible with the Starlink Mini?

Yes. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable is designed specifically for the Starlink Mini and maintains a water-resistant connection.

Will the Mini 12V DC Power Cable work with the Standard Starlink dish or other models?

No. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable is only compatible with the Starlink Mini. For the Gen 3 Standard, use a Gen 3 12V Power Supply or a Gen 3 12V Conversion Box for an aftermarket router.

What voltage does the Starlink Mini accept?

The Starlink Mini accepts 12V to 48V DC input.

Why use the Mini 12V DC Power Cable instead of the factory Starlink power supply?

The Mini 12V DC Power Cable runs the Starlink Mini directly from DC sources like a vehicle battery, ideal for mobile and off-grid setups. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable also skips the inefficiency of converting DC to AC and back to DC through an inverter.

Why is the Mini 12V DC Power Cable 14 AWG?

The heavier 14 AWG wire reduces voltage drop, especially in 12V setups where smaller gauge cables cause power issues or instability. See this video.

What is voltage drop?

Voltage drop happens when power decreases over longer cable runs or smaller gauge wire. This can stop the Starlink Mini from powering on properly or cause unstable performance. The thicker 14 AWG wiring in the Mini 12V DC Power Cable minimizes this. See this video

Does the Mini 12V DC Power Cable have a weatherproof connector?

Yes. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable uses an oversized weatherproof barrel connector that helps keep moisture out of the Starlink Mini power port.

Does the Mini 12V DC Power Cable work with the original Starlink Mini kickstand?

Yes. The connector is compatible with the original Mini kickstand.

How do I know the dish is receiving power?

Once the Mini 12V DC Power Cable is connected properly, the blue light on the Starlink Mini turns on.

How do I install the Mini 12V DC Power Cable?

Firmly push the barrel connector into the Starlink Mini power port. Connect the other end to a compatible 12V to 48V DC power source.

Does the Mini 12V DC Power Cable regulate voltage?

No. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable is a direct power cable and does not regulate or convert voltage. Your power source must already provide a compatible DC voltage between 12V and 48V.

Can I use the Mini 12V DC Power Cable with a portable power station?

Yes, as long as the power station provides a compatible DC output between 12V and 48V.

Can I run the Starlink Mini directly from a vehicle battery?

Yes. Many customers run the Mini 12V DC Power Cable off vehicle, RV, or marine battery systems rated 12V to 48V.

Will the Mini 12V DC Power Cable work with solar setups?

Yes. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable works with solar battery systems that provide compatible DC output between 12V and 48V.

What connection types are available for the Mini 12V DC Power Cable?

The Mini 12V DC Power Cable comes in three options: bare wire leads, cigarette lighter plug, and ring terminal connections.

Which connection type should I choose?
  • Cigarette lighter plug: easiest plug-and-play option for vehicles.
  • Ring terminals: ideal for permanent battery installations.
  • Bare wire leads: best for custom wiring setups.
Why won't my Starlink Mini power on?

Common causes:

  • Insufficient voltage–vehicle turns off, voltage goes down. Or, aux battery drains and the voltage is lower than expected.
  • Loose connection–this creates heat and lowers voltage because of the electrical resistance
  • Incorrect polarity on custom wiring with ring terminals or bare wire, or a faulty cigarette receptacle–this has the potential to burn out the Starkink Mini, damaging it irreparably.

Check that the blue light on the dish turns on after connection.

Is the barrel connector reversible?

No. Make sure the connector is fully seated and aligned before powering the system.

Is the Mini 12V DC Power Cable waterproof?

The connector is weather-resistant. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable itself should not be submerged in water.

Can the Mini 12V DC Power Cable be used while driving?

Yes. Many customers use the Mini 12V DC Power Cable in mobile applications like RVs and overland rigs.

Does the Mini 12V DC Power Cable include a fuse?

No. The Mini 12V DC Power Cable relies on your vehicle's system. Make sure your power system is properly fused for safety.

Can I use the Mini 12V DC Power Cable with a 24V battery system?

Yes. The Starlink Mini supports 12V to 48V DC input, including 24V systems. The Starlink Mini itself can accept anywhere between 12V and 48V.

Why does the Starlink Mini sometimes struggle on 12V setups?

At lower voltages, power loss from small wires or long cable runs becomes more significant. The 14 AWG wiring in the Mini 12V DC Power Cable improves reliability in these setups.

Can an incorrect voltage damage the Starlink Mini?

Yes. Voltage outside the supported 12V to 48V range may damage the equipment.

Is the Mini 12V DC Power Cable plug-and-play?

Yes, for compatible DC power sources and properly configured systems.
