Description

Our Gen 3 12V power supply plugs directly into the Gen 3 Starlink Router. This eliminates the wasted idle draw of powering it through a large inverter (30-50 watts waste for a 3000W inverter!).

Simply unplug the 110V Starlink power supply and plug in our 336W power supply and connect it to a 12V OR 24V power source (Input voltage range is 10-30V). Our converter boosts this to the 56V that the Gen 3 router and dish need. Also build into the converter is a small indicator light, making setup and install much easier.

After testing numerous power supplies we finally had one manufactured overseas. To eliminate any concern about ripple voltage (and subsequent drop outs and/or reduced speeds), we install a capacitor as well as the appropriate barrel connector that works seamlessly with the Starlink Gen 3 router.

Power Consumption tested over 1 hour with constant upload/download internet: 63 Wh (4.5A at 13.8V).

** NOTE: Using snow melt function draws an additional 120W and cannot be used with cigarette lighter plug as most vehicles have a 10A limit.

** If wanting to extend the barrel connector length, we recommend adding a barrel connector extension.

Please select the appropriate connector for your application from the drop down: bare wire leads, ring terminals, or cigarette lighter plug (must be 15A or greater cig plug).

Installation

If connecting to a 12V fuse block, please use a 15A fuse for use with snow melt function or 10A without snow melt (We recommend not lengthening the included 12V power supply cable length, but if needing to please size appropriately based on cable length and fuse size. Seek professional electrical assistance if required).

If connecting to a 24V fuse block, please use a 10A fuse

NOTE: This can also be used to power an appropriate POE to eliminate the SL router entirely (little to no power saving unless you already have a dedicated cellular MIMO router like a Peplink, etc).

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Gen 3 12V Power Supply do?

The Gen 3 12V Power Supply runs your Starlink Gen 3/4/4X Standard directly from a 12V or 24V battery system without an inverter. The Gen 3 12V Power Supply converts 10-30V DC input into the 56V required by the Starlink router and dish.

The Gen 3 12V Power Supply runs your Starlink Gen 3/4/4X Standard directly from a 12V or 24V battery system without an inverter. The Gen 3 12V Power Supply converts 10-30V DC input into the 56V required by the Starlink router and dish.

Running Starlink through a large inverter can waste significant power even when idle, sometimes as much as 20-50 watts. This can translate to hours less of battery usage. The Gen 3 12V Power Supply eliminates this loss by converting your battery power directly to the voltage Starlink requires.

What Starlink systems is the Gen 3 12V Power Supply compatible with?

The Gen 3 12V Power Supply is designed specifically for Starlink Gen 3/4/4X Standard that uses the Gen 3 router.

Is the Gen 3 12V Power Supply compatible with the Starlink Mini?

No. The Starlink Mini already accepts 12V to 48V DC input directly and does not require voltage conversion. For the Mini, use the Mini 12V DC Power Cable instead.

Is the Gen 3 12V Power Supply compatible with Standard 4 / 4X Starlink?

Compatibility depends on the router included with your Starlink. Standard 4 uses the Mini Router. Standard 4X uses the same Router 3 found on Standard 3, along with connector configurations that are not compatible with the Gen 3 12V Power Supply. If you are unsure which router you have, contact us with photos of your dish and router and we will verify compatibility.

How do I know if my Starlink router is compatible?

The easiest way is to compare your router with the product photos on the Starlink website: starlink.com/specifications. You can also contact support with pictures of your setup. Different Starlink kits may use different router versions even if the dish looks similar.

What input voltage does the Gen 3 12V Power Supply accept?

The Gen 3 12V Power Supply accepts 10V to 30V DC input. This makes it compatible with most 12V and 24V battery systems.

What voltage does the Gen 3 12V Power Supply output?

The Gen 3 12V Power Supply boosts the input to approximately 56V DC, which is what the Gen 3 Starlink router and dish require.

Does the Gen 3 12V Power Supply include voltage regulation?

Yes. The Gen 3 12V Power Supply continuously regulates and boosts the input voltage to provide stable power to the dish.

What connection types are available?

The Gen 3 12V Power Supply is available with:

  • Bare wire leads
  • Ring terminals
  • Cigarette lighter plug
Which connection type should I choose?
  • Bare wire leads: ideal for custom installations
  • Ring terminals: ideal for direct battery connections
  • Cigarette lighter plug: easiest option when using a properly rated outlet
Can I use the cigarette lighter plug with snow melt enabled?

No. Snow melt can increase power consumption significantly, and most cigarette lighter outlets are not designed to handle the higher current. For snow melt use, a direct battery or fused connection is recommended.

How much power does the Starlink system use with the Gen 3 12V Power Supply?

Testing showed approximately 63Wh over one hour during constant upload and download, equal to roughly 4.5A at 13.8V. Actual consumption may vary with usage and environment.

Does snow melt increase power consumption?

Yes. The snow melt function can add approximately 120W of additional draw.

What fuse size should I use?

For 12V installations:

  • 15A fuse with snow melt
  • 10A fuse without snow melt

For 24V installations:

  • 10A fuse
My battery system shows 12V, but Starlink won't power on. What should I check?

A battery can show proper voltage at rest but still drop under load. Things to check include:

  • Battery condition or state of charge (this is related to how many volts the battery is outputting)
  • Fuse condition
  • Ground connections
  • Wiring size (this is most common)
  • Voltage drop under load
  • Connection quality
  • Corrosion or resistance in the circuit

Testing directly from a known good battery source can help isolate wiring-related issues.

Why is voltage under load important?

A battery may read 12V when idle, but voltage can drop when Starlink starts drawing power. Measuring voltage while the system is booting gives a more accurate picture of your power system.

Does the Gen 3 12V Power Supply include protection against voltage ripple?

Yes. After extensive testing, a capacitor was built into the design to reduce voltage ripple and deliver stable power.

What is the indicator light for?

The built-in indicator light confirms the Gen 3 12V Power Supply is receiving power and operating properly during installation and troubleshooting.

Can I extend the cable length?

Yes. To extend the barrel connector side, use an appropriate barrel connector extension. For input power wiring, size the wire properly based on the added length and current requirements.

Can I power a POE setup with the Gen 3 12V Power Supply instead of using the Starlink router?

Yes. The Gen 3 12V Power Supply can power compatible POE equipment for advanced installations.

Can I remove the Starlink router entirely and save power?

In most cases, removing the Starlink router provides little to no power savings unless you already use a dedicated networking solution such as a Peplink or similar cellular/MIMO router.

Does the Gen 3 12V Power Supply come with everything needed for installation?

Yes. The Gen 3 12V Power Supply comes pre-assembled and ready to install with your selected connection type.

Can I purchase individual components or connectors separately?

No. The Gen 3 12V Power Supply is sold as a complete assembled unit. Individual internal components are not available separately.

Why does the Gen 3 12V Power Supply use a custom design instead of an off-the-shelf converter?

After testing numerous converters, TRIO developed a custom solution with the correct output characteristics, capacitor filtering, and barrel connector configuration required for reliable Starlink Gen 3 operation.
